“The value of experience is not in seeing much, but in seeing wisely”

-William Osler

As our civilization develops, so do the ways we learn and interpret things. Just years ago you could go into a doctor’s office and see people in the waiting room reading magazines or talking to one another, but these days you are seeing more people in the same setting enthralled in their smartphones. Whether it’s texting, browsing social media, or watching videos, people like the convenience of watching rather than reading.watch

It’s easy to see how this theory can translate over into marketing. As an entrepreneur, most people are use to doing the traditional style of marketing such as flyers, media commercials, and even door to door, but the reality is that most of that is not working anymore. People like getting their information easily and quickly. The simple solution…express your information in visuals! According to several researches, “90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual, and visuals are processed 60,000X faster in the brain than text.”

I personally am passionate about getting the amazing information about the benefits of massage out to the masses and I have been struggling for several years about figuring out what would be the best way.  After researching and investigating from other entrepreneurs, I have learned that video is the best route to go.

Several months ago I created a YouTube channel and have found that many of my clients and potential clients have been pleased with the posts, so in 2014 I will be creating a series of videos that will be short informative about massage therapy as well as answering any questions that you may have about massage an how it can help YOU!  Be sure to tune in and subscribe to DEFINED: Therapeutic Massage’s YouTube channel to learn more and submit your questions!youtube

“Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successfull personality and duplicate it.”
-Bruce Lee

I have previously talked about marketing before and how the new forms of marketing reside in social media and internet mediums. This new form is brilliant for businesses since so many people are looking to Google searches for reviews, recommendations, and information. Another way to market yourself is through combining this new marketing with an older and more traditional form of marketing, video commercials.
There are many people out there that don’t feel that they have the time to sit down and read reviews, but can easily listen to or watch a video and get the same information that they desire. Videos are a great way to include all the important information that you need to convey to your potential clientele. In this case with massage, you would like to first determine what demographic you would like to reach then put yourself in their shoes and figure out what they would like to learn about you and what your massages can provide to them. Since the best form of advertising is always word of mouth, it’s a great idea to ask clients to speak on your behalf with testimonials describing how your treatments differ from others and how your treatments have helped them. Finally, you want to find a reputable videographer who’s style is an expression of you and your work. The result is a perfect combination of classic marketing that you can now promote all over the internet and even distribute the old-fashioned way.

Here are a few tips to consider when creating your video:
1. Keep the video relatively short to avoid boredom
2. Outline- this keeps order to the production
3. Don’t script- this allows you and your testimonials to be real and from the heart.
4. Choose an appropriate soundtrack that fits the work that you do and that doesn’t distract from the content of the video.
5. Have fun!
